Yarbrough School Named an America's Farmers Grow Rural Education $25,000 Grant Winner!
Our school has been chosen to receive an America's Farmers Grow Rural Education grant, which will be used to enhance our math and science departments!
We will be establishing a 750 square foot greenhouse as a STEM laboratory, supporting both hydroponic and traditional gardening embedded within the daily curriculum for all students in grades PreK-12. The greenhouse will also be used during our Lobo PACK afterschool program and during summer school activities. The Lobo GROW! Program focus is as follows:
G – growing STEM skills through gardening,
R – raising academic achievement, and
O – overcoming rural isolation and poverty
W – with community involvement and student leadership development.
Oklahoma Ag in the Classroom, Life Lab Science, Junior Master Gardener, and Vernier Investigating Environmental Science through Inquiry curriculum will engage students in authentic, real-world, hands-on group and individual STEM learning experiences including projects where students will grow “edible science” (e.g., vegetables, herbs, etc.) to be eaten by students through the school lunch program and after school snack program.
We are looking forward to getting our veggies growing.
